Expressions Dance Company (EDC) is Queensland's premier contemporary dance theatre company. EDC is renowned for creating critically acclaimed signature dance works and for its commitment to forging local and international multi-disciplinary artistic collaborations.
Over four decades EDC has created 170 works by 75 Australian and international choreographers. In addition to presenting annual seasons of original work at QPAC and other Brisbane venues, the company has enjoyed 22 international tours to 17 countries and 23 major Australian tours.
EDC is lead by Artistic Director Natalie Weir, an established and internationally acclaimed choreographer known for her emotionally charged, narrative driven signature works including The Red Shoes, R&J, When Time Stops, 7 Deadly Sins and where the heart is.
Her unique artistic vision is underpinned by the desire to explore human journeys and communicate relatable experiences to audiences the world over. Interpreted by an extraordinary ensemble, Natalie's work for EDC has achieved significant recognition including 4 Helpmann Awards and 2 Australian Dance Awards.
EDC has a strong history of national and international collaboration. EDC has presented productions to international audiences in Busan and Seoul in South Korea, Beijing, Guangzhou, Jiangmen, Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou in China, Singapore and Basel Switzerland. In addition, EDC has established partnerships with City Contemporary Dance Company, Beijing Dance/LDTX and Guangdong Modern Dance Company. These partnerships are the foundation of our five-year Chinese Australian Dance Exchange Project (CADEP), a ground-breaking collaboration providing opportunities for Australian and Chinese dance makers to deepen their practice through cultural exchanges, partnerships, collaborations, touring and residencies.
